10 Myths About Hair

I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine having to spend my time and money plucking out every strand of hair on my head. Then couple of weeks later, I’d spent the whole time wondering whether to go through with it or not. Now I’d made my decision; but at the same time, I was left with tons of questions about hair care, pretty much everything else being equal. Hence, I’ve decided to take on this challenge.

The ten laziest myths about hair care:

1. Too many hair care products can make it fall out.

FALSE: Depending on the product you use, it may or may not do any damage. The most common products that are seen as having potential to cause damage include: sulfate-free shampoos, alcohol-containing shampoos, menthol-based shampoos, and hair gels withicone.

2. More shampoo = cleaner hair.

FALSE: Don’t get caught up in the marketingakesclericyou may actually make your hair worse. The key is to use a shampoo that’s appropriate for your hair. For instance, if you have unruly hair, avoid using shampoos with sulfate.

3. Dandruff can be cured with anti-dandruff shampoos.

FALSE: Dandruff can be caused by a variety of things, so try each of them individually to see if it helps. Dandruff is a manifestation of scalp low-esteem.

4. To get your hair to grow faster, brush 100 strokes each day.

This myth is one of the oldest and most inaccurate. In truth, you can only affect the health of your hair, not the other way around. All you care for is the health of your scalp. Brushing 100 times is simply not enough to induce tangles and matting.

5. To get your hair to grow faster, do not wash your hair every day.

FALSE: Washing your hair everyday will stimulate the scalp to produce more oils. If you do wash it everyday, it will strip your hair of its oils. Keep it clean by only washing it every 3-4 days.

6. To get your hair to grow faster, do not use hair dryers.

FALSE: D Dryers can damage the cuticle and leave your hair porous, causing split ends and brittleness.

7. To get your hair to grow faster, never brush it when it is wet.

FALSE: Your hair can be at its driest in the middle of a perfectly clean head of hair. Therefore, your hair is at its most susceptible in the middle of a dry day.

8. Eating chocolate or ice cream before bed can cause melt-down of the hair.

FALSE: Although it may sound so, eating ice cream before bed can in fact cause YOU to have mane fall out. Go eat something else.

9. brushing can damage your mane

FALSE: Brushing can damage the look of your hair by breaking the follicle, making split ends and making it brittle if you use cheap quality brushes. The best brushes are used to only brush your hair, and not any other thing. Good brushes, however, can actually protect your hair from certain brushes. So brush your hair good and protect it from certain damages.

10. using too much hair products and using the wrong ones can damage your hair

FALSE: You are not going to damage your hair by using more hair products; if you use the right types of hair products that are of high quality. If you use the wrong types of products you may cause harm to your hair which can actually cause more damage to it.

11. dandruff

FALSE: There is actually no known cure for dandruff. Some people say that when you have dandruff the best that you can do is to wash your hair and run hot water on it for a few minutes. If that does not work you should either use shampoo or radically different types of shampoos.

12. split ends

FALSE: Stylists never ever cut split ends. It is always the ends of the hair that splits which causes the splitting up the hair. So if your hair splits do not ever cut it!

13. ironing without a license

Ironing hair can definitely be harmful if done incorrectly. Although in some cases it is far worse than a simple ironing. In other cases, the split ends will accumulate and damage the entire hair. So be careful and always get a professional to do the ironing for you.

14. trims regularly

We have all failed at finding the perfect style or cut due to pressure, illness, depression, etc and many other reasons. Still, that doesn’t mean we should cut it short, just trim it.
